August 2, 2017

“And how would you like your eggs?” she asked courteously.

“Cooked” was his quick reply.

She stared at him, baffled, for a moment, then said smartly, “Of course they’re going to be cooked. What stlye of cooking would you prefer?”

“Overeasy please,” he said smiling.

It had been a good day for him. He had just closed yet another account, and went to his favorite diner to celebrate.

“Anything else I can get you?” she asked quickly as she was putting away her note pad.

“No thanks,” he said. “That’ll be everything.”

He had been coming to this diner for several months, and he fancied this waitress.

Jessica was her name.

She reminded him of a childhood friend he had long since lost contact with.

He had begun searching the internet for her or her family’s presence. No such luck.

They had moved away many years ago. He too eventually moved away from his childhood home, to a strange place far away.

He reminisced for a moment before reaching for his tea, and taking a sip.
